The Lord Mayor of Leeds, United Kingdom, Abigail Marshall-Katung, has been inducted into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame.

Abigail, the wife of Senator Sunday Katung, representing the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District, was inducted into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame by the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.

The ceremony took place at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development in Abuja, where she was recognised for her contributions to empowering women and children.

Speaking at the event, Sulaiman-Ibrahim commended the Lord Mayor for her fight for women and children’s rights.

“We commend her sterling contribution and exceptional feat in fighting for the rights of women and children. We urge her to continue mentoring young folks to sustain the tides of women’s development and participation in politics and governance,” she said.

The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, congratulated Abigail, stating that her induction reaffirmed NiDCOM’s belief in the global influence of Nigerians living abroad.

“Abigail is one of the very best Nigerians in the diaspora. We celebrate her for making us proud in the United Kingdom,” Dabiri-Erewa said.

In her response, Lord Mayor Abigail expressed her gratitude for the recognition.

“It’s an absolute honour for me to be recognised by the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, where I served as a corper, 26 years ago. It is a privilege for me to be among the distinguished personalities on the hall of fame,” she said.
