Youths across the country have been tasked to get adequately prepared for both political and business leadership positions in the country.
The call was made at a media briefing ahead of a June 12 youth leadership training conference titled, “Freedom 2025.”
The programme is scheduled for the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David, Trinity Towers, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Speaking, the Pastor-in-Charge of Region 52, RCCG, Pastor Samuel Olaniyan said the conference is centred on encouraging young people to participate in elections and shun election apathy.
He added that the one-day training program includes a high-impact youth leadership conference designed to awaken vision, inspire participation, and catalyse the future of Nigerian politics, governance and the economy.
Olaniyan said, “We know that if these youths are properly exposed to what the future holds for them, they would fit in properly as future leaders and take their positions in the business and political sectors, playing effective leadership roles.
“Freedom 2025 is about the active participation of the youth essentially in the politics of Nigeria, and how to galvanise them to be interested in the leadership of the country. We’ve discovered there has been apathy on the side of young Nigerians.
“Owing to the way things are in the country, young people are losing interest in the political process. This programme will make them reason about their future and encourage their political participation. The programme is about mentorship programmes in politics, business as well as in governance.”
Olaniyan stressed the event aimed to shape the youths and get the right people into governance.
He added that participants would also gain from the wealth of experience of Pastor-in-Charge of Continent 3, Prof. Johnson Odesola, and federal and state legislators among others.
He emphasised that it was in the interest of the church and nation to encourage young Nigerians to take up higher leadership responsibilities.
Participants expected at the event include parishioners across RCCG regions 1, 36 and 52.
