The Lagos State Police Command has redeployed the Tactical Squad Commander of Okokomaiko following allegations of mishandling six serious criminal cases.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.
According to Hundeyin, the redeployment, ordered by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, is intended to ensure an impartial and thorough investigation into allegations of complicity and irregularities linked to the officer, whose name was not disclosed.
“The redeployment is a strategic move to allow for an unhindered and comprehensive inquiry,” the statement revealed.
The police spokesperson explained that the officer allegedly compromised the investigation and prosecution processes involving six suspects charged with serious crimes.
To ensure transparency, the Lagos CP constituted a special committee to probe the allegations.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police leads the panel in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, including the Officer in Charge of Legal Affairs and other senior officers.
“The outcome of the investigation will certainly be made public,” Hundeyin stated, reaffirming the command’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on corruption, the command assured that any officer found culpable would face the full weight of disciplinary measures.
“The command will make sure that if the officer involved is found wanting in any way, appropriate disciplinary measures will be promptly applied to serve as an effective deterrent to others,” the statement read.
It also said Fayoade appealed to the public for patience and continued faith in the police.
“The Commissioner of Police calls for caution and restraint and therefore implores members of the public to continue to have trust in the Police and be assured that every wrongdoing proven against any officer will certainly be redressed,” the statement added.
The command said findings from the committee’s investigation were expected to be released in the coming days as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal accountability and rebuild public confidence.
