The Office of the Immediate Past Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has raised alarm over the circulation of AI-generated videos falsely portraying him as endorsing various products and schemes.
In a statement released on Thursday by his media aide, Mohammed Braimah, the office condemned the unauthorised use of Osinbajo’s image and voice, warning the public about the misleading content.
“It has come to our attention that the image of the immediate past Vice President, His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, is being used in AI-generated videos to fraudulently promote products and services that are not endorsed, supported by or affiliated with him in any form whatsoever,” the statement partly read.
The videos, according to the release, falsely show the former VP promoting hypertension medication and a so-called money-making scheme, both of which are entirely fabricated and misleading.
“Specifically, one video features an image of him advertising hypertension medications, while the other also features an AI-generated voiceover announcing a fraudulent Money-Making Scheme,” the statement continued.
The office stressed that Osinbajo has no connection with the said videos or the products and services being promoted.
“We reiterate that these videos are fraudulent and not endorsed by or affiliated with Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, “the statement added.
The public was advised to exercise vigilance and confirm the authenticity of any promotional material, especially those featuring prominent personalities.
“We urge the general public to remain cautious and always verify the authenticity of products and services before making any decisions concerning them,” the statement concluded.
