A 13-year-old Nigerian, Isaac Solarin, has been selected to represent South Africa in the Softball Tour in Prague, Czech Republic.

Solarin was chosen by a South African company, Blue Runnings Sport International, which specialised in organising international sports tours for young athletes.

The firm collaborated with a softball group to select Solarin from among various age groups to participate in the tour scheduled from 5 to 14 October 2025.

This was disclosed in a letter titled, ‘BRSI Sponsorship Letter 2025’ made available to our correspondent on Tuesday by the boy’s mother, Doris Solarin-Ikeri, who is also the President of the Nigerian Union in South Africa.

According to BRSI, the European tour would afford the 13-year-old and his peers the opportunity “to explore the wonderful offerings of the Czech Republic and will be exposed to the best softball coaching and matches.”

Speaking about her child, Solarin-Ikeri said the boy was outstanding in his academics and sporting activities in the school, which attracted the company to pick him for the tour.

“I’m proud of my boy. He’s been outstanding in his studies and extracurricular activities, and this was the reason he was picked as the only Nigerian among other young boys to represent South Africa,” Solarin-Ikeri said.

She said Solarin was selected after an outstanding performance in a provincial tournament in South Africa last year.
