A Nigerian national, Jones Michael, has been nabbed by the police for having methamphetamine worth 15 lakh (N27,885,000) in India.

The Times of India reported that Michael, 32, who plied his trade as a footballer, was arrested last Saturday in Erode, Tamil Nadu.

A Prohibition Enforcement Wing team led by Inspector Sivahami Rani arrested him near the Vijayamangalam toll gate following an intel.

Following an investigation, the police revealed that the Nigerian did not have a valid visa and residency documents to stay in Tamil Nadu.

“His passport had expired in 2023, and it is likely that he illegally entered the country by sea,” Rani said.

The Nigerian was remanded in prison while the authorities filed charges against him under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Foreigners Act.
