The Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission representing Abia State, Azubuike Nwaubani, has highlighted the commission’s support towards the advancement of education especially in the area of supply of science equipment to schools in the state.

Nwaubani stated this on Tuesday at the organisation’s state office at Okikpe, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the statewhile celebrating Abia children on the occasion of this year’s Children’s Day

The occasion was held in collaboration with a non-governmental organization, Honour Your Father Honor Your Father and Mother Initiative.

Nwaubani said, “We send people abroad on scholarship to further their education. We have been doing so much for the advancement of education in Niger Delta. As a Federal government agency, there are things you would also want the Federal Government to do towards the upliftment of the people of tomorrow, the children.

“Improving the lives of Nigerian students or Nigerian citizens, especially the youth, is a continuous process. It is a project that you cannot say you have done more than enough. We have actually started giving the children some inventions, which is very, very commendable.

“Some states, especially Abia States, have made it possible and compulsory that every child of school age must go to school. That’s also an encouragement. We encourage the federal government to do more. You can’t just stop. It is a project that has no end”.

He disclosed that NDDC wants to key into the initiative of the federal government “to make sure that we bring some children here to let them understand also that they are as important to the nation as adults. So we have called them today to bring them here for them to have fun with us and make sure that we take care of them and allowing them to have a sense of belonging. This is why they are here”.

He added, “The celebration is part of our social responsibility. NDDC, as you know, is not only an intervention agency that builds roads, builds schools and other infrastructures.

We are also interested in the social way of the people of Nigeria, the children are not exceptional”.

Advising parents, Nwaubani said. “I know that every parent is interested in the advancement of his or her world. We expect them to encourage them, sending them to school, talking to them, making them have a sense of belonging, making them know that they are loved.

“That they are loved is very much important. If you make them know that they are loved, they will know. And when you talk to them, that they are the leaders of tomorrow, they will know that they cannot be a leader without actually being obedient, without actually attending to their chores, home chores and school assignments.

“They cannot be a leader without listening to their teachers and their parents, without making even you, as a parent, to be their own model. When you make them have confidence in themselves, you will be able to be the leaders of tomorrow”.

Also speaking, the Executive Director, Honor Your Father and Mother Initiative, Royston ChibuikeIyeuwa said “We decided to make the children of Abia State happy, not only because of the party, but to tell them that education is important, like health and hygiene

“So we are here to entertain the children and the resource persons are there to speak to the children and lecture them on how and the basic foundation of education, hygiene and everything that will be in life as humans.

“NDDC is doing enough to promote education in this country. The team led by Sam Obuku, the MD of NDDC, has really tried when it comes to education.
