Politician and community leader, Mujidat Ogunnaike, who was also the Iyalode Akarigbo of Remoland, was laid to rest on Friday, May 30, 2025. A reception followed at Sapele Events Centre, Sagamu, Ogun State.
At the service, members of the deceased’s family were dressed in matching aso-oke outfits, while one of her daughters, Akerele Ajewole, read her late mother’s biography.
At the reception, guests turned out in large numbers to celebrate the life of the deceased, and were entertained by legendary juju musician, Ebenezer Obey, and his band.
Earlier, a tribute ceremony organised by her political family was held at the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abeokuta, alongside a night of tribute at her residence in Sagamu, Ogun State, on Monday, May 26, 2025.
In addition, a “celebration of life” ceremony took place at Remo Divisional High School, Sagamu, on Tuesday, May 27, followed by a wake keep held on Thursday, at the Akarigbo Palace Hall, Ita-Oba, Sagamu.
Notable guests in attendance included the former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel; the Chairman of Ogun State Water Corporation, Fatai Sowemimo; and several others.
Royal representation was also notable, with dignitaries including the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Adewale Ajayi; and the Ayanperuwa of Sotubo, Oba Ogunsola Oluseyi, among others.
Ogunnaike, who passed away on May 11, 2025, at the age of 76, is survived by her husband, Bayo Ogunnaike; children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Among them are Adenike, wife of Oladipupo Adebutu, the 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party; and Ajewole Akerele.
