Ogun State House of Assembly has urged the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to expedite action on the re-electrification of some communities affected by the destruction of electricity poles and installations by trucks belonging to the Dangote Cement factory.
It was learnt that after pulling down the poles, the Dangote cement factory donated everything needed to fix the damaged power installations. According to Ogun Assembly Media, during the plenary on Tuesday, the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide, asked the Ibadan Disco to energise the communities affected.
Elemide was responding to the submission of the lawmaker representing Yewa North 1 State Constituency, Adegoke Adeyanju, who reported that the Dangote cement factory had fulfilled its part of the commitment to supply electricity items to re-energise the affected communities in his constituency.
The Speaker, while joining the lawmaker to commend the cement factory for its gesture, appealed to the IBEDC to follow suit by energising the communities within the six weeks it had earlier promised during the tripartite meeting with the State House of Assembly on the matter.
Earlier in his presentation, Adeyanju stated that Dangote Cement has already provided the necessary materials for the project, leaving IBEDC to fulfill its part in restoring power to the communities.
He thanked the traditional rulers in the area, led by the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, and other interest groups, including the members of the National Youth Council in the area.
Also at the plenary, the Speaker, Elemide, directed the House Committee to interface with the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to address concerns regarding the Imodi-Mosan roads, following a personal explanation presented by Hon Olusegun Odunuga on the need to fix some roads in his constituency.
In the same vein, the member representing Ifo 2, State Constituency, Fola Salami, presented a petition on behalf of Oke-Aro/Akute/Asoore/Ajuwon area by officers and the Baale from Akinosi Area Development Committee, Ifo Local Government Area, on the “environmental degradation caused by the laying of water pipes for Lagos State by a civil engineering contractor, SALINI Nigeria Limited.”
