Four die, two injured in Oyo crash

Four people have lost their lives while two others sustained varying degrees of injury in an accident involving two commercial vehicles at Idi-Ori on the new Ibadan/Oyo Expressway in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The two injured passengers are currently receiving treatment at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo State.

An eyewitness, Adekunle Adeleke, popularly known as ‘God dey’ on Wednesday, told our correspondent that “the accident involved two commercial vehicles, one Volvo (Yellow colour) while the second vehicle is a DAF truck.

Adeleke explained, “The cause of the incident was obstruction. The accident involved six people. Four confirmed dead immediately while two other persons who sustained varying degrees of injuries were taken to the UCH for treatment.”

Another witness, Taofeek Akinola,
said, “Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corp and the Nigeria Police responded forthwith to the crash.”

When contacted, the state Commander of the FRSC, Rosemary Alo, confirmed the incident.

Alo said the corpses have been deposited at the University College Hospital in Ibadan.

She said, ‘The Police carried out the rescue as the crash happened close to their office. The corpses were taken to UCH by the Police, while accident vehicles causing obstruction have been cleared off the road.

“Men of RS11.39 Moniya are on ground controlling traffic at the scene.”

Alo charged the drivers to be careful while driving on the road.
