A non-governmental organisation, IA-Foundation, has enrolled 100 street children in Mafoluku, Oshodi, Lagos State, into schools.
The initiative was part of the Foundation’s Children’s Day outreach, aimed at providing access to education for vulnerable children in underserved communities.
This was disclosed in a statement by the organisation’s Founder and CEO, Ibironke Adeagbo, on Tuesday.
Speaking during the event on Tuesday, Adeagbo said the decision to take children off the streets was driven by the urgent need to tackle rising poverty and insecurity linked to lack of education.
“We cannot afford to ignore these children.
“Leaving them on the streets only increases poverty and insecurity in the country,” Adeagbo said.
She urged more collaboration between NGOs and the government, especially in fulfilling Sustainable Development Goal 4, which focuses on inclusive and quality education for all.
Adeagbo described the foundation’s outreach as “a call to action” and a reminder that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
She noted that the 100 children were introduced to a safe space filled with care, where they were inspired through talks on the power of education.
“These children, who have been left to navigate life on their own, were encouraged to dream beyond their present conditions,” she added.
Adeagbo said the foundation remains committed to breaking the cycle of poverty through education, calling on stakeholders to invest more in keeping children in school.
