Former Junior Female Yellow Greens stalwart, Kehinde Amusa, continued to impress on her debut outing with the women’s senior team at the 2025 Kwibuka T20i tournament in Kigali, Rwanda, powering Nigeria to a 36-run win over Sierra Leone on Sunday.

Amusa was instrumental with the bat and the ball, contributing the most runs; 23 off 28 balls to steady the first innings for Nigeria while also grabbing two wickets for just seven runs in four overs.

In the absence of captain Favour Eseigbe, Lillian Udeh led the team out for their sixth game of the series, winning the toss and electing to bat first on their way to back-to-back wins in the tournament.

The 18-year-old Amusa, who is cutting her teeth at senior level in Rwanda, paired Esther Sandy as Nigeria’s openers and was on till the 12th over after a few fall of wickets tested the Female Yellow Greens batting.

Sandy also added 18 runs off 19 balls before she ousted in the fifth over while Christabel Chukwuonye’s 20 runs from 28 balls also beefed up Nigeria’s innings which ended at 104 runs all out in 19.4 overs.

In the second innings, Emma Kamara proved tough for the Nigerian bowlers, hitting 40 runs from 58 balls not out to push the Sierra Leoneans to 68 runs for 10 in 20 overs, but it was still far off from their 105 target.

Nigeria’s win was their third of the tournament and they remain fifth in the table with six points ahead of their next match against Malawi on Tuesday.

The top four spots which would move into the semi-finals of the tournament are currently occupied by Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. The Female Yellow Greens are outside the semi-final spot due to net run rate.

The Kwibuka T20i Tournament has been running since 2014. The most successful nation in the tournament is Kenya which boasts of four titles while host nation Rwanda have won it once.

The 2024 edition was won by Uganda with Zimbabwe finishing as runners-up.
