The Anambra State Government has established the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC) as part of efforts to ensure steady power supply across the state.

This decision was reached during the 10th State Executive Council meeting, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the state Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Sir Julius Chukwuemeka.

According to him, ASERC will oversee the implementation of electricity policies of the state government to facilitate investments in the power sector and attract private sector participation.

The Commissioner described the move as a good step in the right direction which would facilitate the state government’s investment in power generation.

He said, “The state electricity regulatory commission would be charged with the responsibility of generating electricity aimed at providing a steady power supply in the state.

“The creation of ASERC is a confirmation of Governor Chukwuma uma Soludo’s commitment towards economic development for power availability, which would aid his industrial revolution in Anambra State.

“The ASERC would oversee the implementation of electricity policies of the Solution government to facilitate investments in the power sector, attract private sector participation, which will give birth to more infrastructural developments in the state.”

Recall that the Memorandum of Understanding between the state government and Enugu Electricity Distribution Company has resulted in the manufacturing of electricity prepaid metres in Ozubulu, Anambra State, thereby bridging the metering gap.

Chukwuemeka also highlighted other power-related projects under the Soludo administration, including the distribution of transformers to needy communities, the proposed establishment of Nigeria’s first electricity market, and the ongoing construction of a substation at the Igbariam campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

He said solar power installations have also been deployed in government buildings and new water facilities under the governor’s clean and green agenda.
