Rome Business School Nigeria has proposed a partnership with the Lagos State Government to provide postgraduate and executive education scholarships for between 200 and 250 residents of the state.

The joint scholarship scheme, estimated at over N500m, is expected to take off in October 2025.

The proposal was presented during a courtesy visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu by a delegation from the international business school led by its Founder and Dean, Prof. Antonio Ragusa.

According to the proposal, the initiative will cover executive education programmes for government officials, merit-based MBA scholarships for high-performing civil servants, and a large-scale scholarship package for qualified Lagos residents.

“The school proposes a jointly funded scholarship initiative to sponsor 200–250 Lagos residents, beginning with the October 2025 intake,” Ragusa said.

“The estimated value of this initiative exceeds N500m, directly contributing to the state government’s mission of inclusive growth, economic empowerment, and human capital advancement.”

In a statement, the General Manager of Rome Business School Nigeria, Mr Olakunle Asunmo, said the visit focused on building strategic collaborations to expand access to top-tier executive education and upskill public sector professionals in Lagos.

Also present to receive the delegation were the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule; Special Adviser on Legal and Public-Private Partnerships, Mrs. Bukola Odoe; and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tertiary Education, Mr. Kasali Waheed.

Before the visit to the Lagos State Government, Prof. Ragusa had also paid a courtesy call on former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta. Their discussion centred on the role of education in driving Africa’s development.

The meeting also highlighted the impact of Rome Business School Nigeria in providing world-class but affordable professional education for Africa’s emerging leaders and professionals.

“Our mission has always been to empower professionals through international-standard education, bridging the gap between local potential and global opportunities,” Ragusa said.

In his remarks, Obasanjo lauded the institution’s commitment to capacity building and urged continued efforts to broaden access to affordable, quality education.

“Chief Obasanjo welcomed the dialogue, noting the critical need for sustainable investment in education to drive development across sectors,” the statement added.

“He commended Rome Business School Nigeria for its growing impact in equipping professionals with modern skills and global perspectives, urging continued efforts in expanding access and innovation in education.”
